The Supremes Deliver Yet Again

with 6 comments

Breaking News: The Supreme Court has ruled, 5-4, in an opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts that school assignments may not be based on race.

The liberal spin on this is, predictably, going to be that schools now have a limited ability to maintain racial integration. There will be a large school of thought that says that because we can’t now by law make students go to certain schools because of race, the schools will slowly become segregated again and we will have lost all of the “progress” of the twentieth century.

Don’t buy it.

Remember the principle idea behind capitalism and the free market? Things work better when determined by the private market and the private citizenry. This has been shown to be true time and time again, despite overwhelming efforts to prove the contrary. This same principle works the same way in many other things as well. In reality, this opinion handed down by the Supreme Court can only strengthen the nation’s quality of education, because no person can be forced to remain at a bad school even if they are a promising student, poor students do not have to be stuck in a bad school, and poor students in good schools won’t necessarily drag the school down. Regardless of what liberals tell you, having the government determine these things is always bad. Always.
