New Theme
I had gotten a bit tired of the old one, and there were some issues with fitting links and the like. I hope everybody likes it. Let me know if you don’t. Doesn’t mean I’ll listen to you, but at least you’ll have your say.
We Need Another Dickens
I’ve been reading Dickens’s book Nicholas Nickleby lately. It is my second Dickens book. (First was Oliver Twist) I must say that it makes me wish we had another one. I say this because we have a few things in this society that we hold a little too important, and Dickens could have masterfully satirized and criticized them to the point that those involved would question their very existence.
Take the Academy Awards for instance. This year’s grouping was a usual mockery, with crude, vile films that push liberal “values” featuring prominently. The usual politics and crybabiness by the actors went on, with Eddie Murphy highlighting it by leaving because he didn’t get an award. But last year’s awards were a better example. Every one of the nominees for best picture last year were Hollywood propoganda films for homosexuality, euthanasia, rewritten history, and so on and so forth. By the way, what was the last good American history film by Hollywood? “The Patriot?” Oh, that’s right, that wasn’t Hollywood, that was Mel Gibson.
Another institution Dickens would have a lot of fun with is the tolerance pushers. I think he would gleefully point out their double-standards, like white people who shoot at cops and then get thrown in jail for the rest of their lives deserve it, while black people who shoot at cops get out because Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton comes to protest. He would very much enjoy creating a liberal activist or congressman character for one of his books, so that he could show how they jump all over other supposed corruptions and then try to hide their own. (See Grit talk about it.)
Oh, yes, we need another Dickens.
