FDR: One of the greatest? Hardly.

with 2 comments

In fact, he’s one of the worst in our nation’s history. Simply put, it was Franklin Delano Roosevelt who instituted many of the policies that put this country on the path to destruction. A word for all you liberals who want to point to his wartime record: Bush. You don’t think a war record is good enough to be called a good president, than make it apply here. If you think we have too many casualties in Iraq, well, we lost thousands more than that on Normandy alone.

The fact is, FDR put in place a number of socialist institutions and programs that have been ruinous to this country. Social Security is one of the chief among them. The problem with it is the same problem with every other socialist program. It takes what everybody does, good workers and bad workers and no workers at all, and throws the wages into a big pot, and then pays out equally. It doesn’t pay people who work harder more, and it doesn’t pay people who work less a smaller amount. Now, the program take millions of dollars a year from other things and is still on its way to being bankrupt. It’s going down in flames, and it’s taking YOUR money with it. And you have FDR to thank for that.

Also, the progression towards welfare for anybody who’s to lazy to work in this country can be traced back to him. His New Deal, seemingly a good idea to get people out of poverty at the time, has proved disastrous. In some instances, people can make more on unemployment than they can working. You see, he put these programs in place and they made him vastly popular. They supposedly ended the depression and all that. But in doing so they began a reliance on the federal government unseen up to that point. This dangerous reliance has permeated through the country, so that whenever something doesn’t seem right, we go to the government to get money to fix it. The government in turn taxes us more and borrows more money. Very bad for a nation’s economic health. (If you actually think the welfare system in this country works, trust me, it doesn’t. I know from personal experience.)

The truth is, that FDR never did win the war. It was Truman that did that. And while one must give him credit for the spine that he showed during that time (against criticism from, believe it or not, the New York Times), you cannot ignore the almost permanent damage he did to this country. His economic policies were based on Keynesianism, which has long ago been disproved, yet the laws and acts put in place by him will likely never be repealed. That’s quite a sad thing, when you think about it.

Arrogance vs. Confidence

with 5 comments

It’s a thin line, and I often wonder how to walk on it without falling off. Where is the line, or is it undefineable? Are arrogant people really confident? What characteristics illustrate the two?
